Why You Must Visit the City That Has the Largest Memorial and Other Great Things to Do There
St. Louis, Missouri is best known for their famous arch right near the downtown area but has a deep rooted history and many great things to see in addition to Gateway Arch according to St. Louis painting contractors. In the early 1900’s it was the 4th most populated city in America and hosted the spectacular events of the 1904 World’s Fair and the 1094 Olympic games which was the first time they were ever held anywhere in the Western hemisphere. The city itself has decreased in size being only the 52nd most populated city today. Due to the big boom and those big crowd pleasing events, there are many fabulous things to see and do in this city for people visiting. The most popular tourist destination is the Gateway Arch which can be seen from far away distances and is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and was designed in 1947 but completed in 1965. It stands 630 feet tall and is 630 wide at the bottom making it the largest memorial in America. Many people who are not afraid of heights; can take a trip up to the top inside the arch for overall views of the city. Below the arch is a museum depicting the great migration of settlers that headed west of the Mississippi River. That is why this memorial is also referred to as the Gateway to the West.
Another great attraction to visit in this city is the St. Louis Art museum which was constructed in 1904 for the World’s Fair event. This museum is in a historically grand building and holds a broad variety of art from modern pieces to ancient relics. Many world famous artists are also featured in this grand museum like Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Picasso. It is situated in Forest Park which is also a great place to spend some time in. It is bigger than New York City’s Central Park and The St. Louis Zoo and the Muny which is the largest and oldest outside musical theatre in the nation.
If you wish to see a special Italian neighborhood; visit an area which is known as “The Hill”. Famous baseball players Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola both grew up on the Hill where you can find the city’s best Italian restaurants. Plaques are on the childhood homes of these baseball greats as well as several other famous residents of this small neighborhood.
Speaking of baseball, a fun spot to go to is the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum. It is situated near Busch Stadium in downtown. This place will be moving in the next year to a new spot in Ballpark Village which will be better for larger amounts of visitors.
