Lance comes positive and motivated to this new phase on his career to start in 2009 with strong challenges, which he is ready to fight and succeed to demonstrate his superiority and high competitively level.
The seven times Tour de France champion and currently member of Astana Team, is preparing to face up to 2009 Giro d’Italia, which will be the first competition that will put him again in road. For this task, Armstrong will join forces to Alberto Contador, his teammate, with the purpose of reach and defeat Ivan Basso, who presents as a favorite Italian to win the event and who is very excited about racing against the American star.
Armstrong knows very well that it won’t be an easy tour, since besides riding alongside the last winner of the Tour de France, Carlos Sastre, will have to survive the Giro’s trail that’s been modified for 2009; when will celebrate its 100 years of existence. This great test for Lance, who _despite the inactivity period_ declares feeling in great physical condition, but at the same time is not over-confident as the Italian tour is totally new for him.
As a Giro d’Italia’ Centenary commemoration, a new route has been set with many differences from the past years, this time has complicated ascents and will begin with a time trial phase, something according to Lance, he has never experienced.
The other goal in Armstrong’s mind is participating in the Tour de France 2009. For the Tour Lance considers supported by his vast experience, although he recognizes that his competence level has decrease due to the time out, anyhow he prepares aware that the knowledge acquire in his 37 years of live has turn him into an very competitive person, which has help him to succeed every time.
Lance is going to compete at the Tour de France after the complications and inconveniences to which has been exposed to since his last participation in 2005. Back then, when he won his last and seventh in a row French title the controversy began, the American was accused by the media of using illegal substances (steroids). Until now Lance has tried to leave the bad moments in the past and stays with his feet on the ground knowing that right now he wouldn’t be capable to conquer an eight title, therefore is has been training strongly everyday since the decision of competing was taken.
Comeback to compete hasn’t been complicated for Lance Armstrong, who although spent the past 3 years ‘inactive’, his fighter spirit keeps him moving forward. This return will mark a new phase for the deteriorated image of the cycling world, because of the constant doping scandals.About the Author:
